Making Paper Roses

For my birthday present from my mum we went to Devon to spend a weekend crafting, with Wendy makes roses. We spotting the course in magazine about 8 months ago, but the lovely Wendy moved house so we had to wait until now to go, it was certainly worth the wait.

After a longer than intended journey we finally arrived in a tiny village just outside Bideford and stayed in a very pretty B&B, Tarka House. Paul and Cathy were lovely hosts and prepared a huge breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for myself and a wonderful cooked breakfast for my mum, I would highly recommend them if you find yourself in the area.

Once we arrived at Wendy’s we started off slowly, being shown the history of making paper roses and the basics. It took us a little while to master but once we got going we quickly picked it up, by the end of the day we had made about 5 roses each.

We certainly improved from the beginning of the day as I think you’ll agree! We also learnt about the theory of dying our own paper to create different colours and shades of roses. However Wendy also holds an advanced class for making paper roses, including how to dye paper, I think we might be going back for that one we had so much fun first time round.

I’m planning to make everyone homemade presents this Christmas, I know what most of them will be getting this year!
